In 1821 Nevada became a part of the First Mexican Empire under the regimeof Agustin de Iturbide. Nevada's existence as a separate state: Previously a part of the state of Utah, Nevada became a separate state just before the presidential elections of 1864. The state achieved its current geographical boundaries on May 5, 1866.
