Economy of Nevada

Located in the western flank of America, Nevada is one of the most naturally affluent states with a proliferation of a host of silver and gold mines. Discovered by the Spanish Nevada became an American state in 19th century. Home to the casino capital of the world-Las Vegas much of the Economy of Nevada rests on tourism and entertainment.

With the discovery of the Comstock Lode, the first major silver-mining area in the United States of America, Silver mining is one of the formidable industries in Nevada being at the nerve center of Nevada's economy. Mining has molded the Economy of Nevada since long, in fact the state is often known as the silver state of America. In terms of its produce, Nevada happens to be the second-largest producer of silver in the country, just next in line after Alaska. However with problems like labor strikes Nevada poses threats in terms of its competition from states like Colorado and Utah in the mining industry. Apart from the rich sliver deposits in its mines Nevada is also noted for its abundant stock of gold mines. The other important mineral reserves include copper, gypsum, diatomite and lithium.

Apart from the ubiquitous mining industry, agriculture is an important part of the Economy of Nevada asa is livestock, dairy products, machinery, printing and publishing, food processing, and electric equipment. Both the Las Vegas and Reno metropolitan areas have mining and cattle ranching as the major economic activities. Tourism is yet another economic booster of the state, as Vegas is home to the world’s largest chain of casino-hotels. A hub of adult entertainment, Prostitution is also a legalized industry in Nevada.
