Located in the western part of America, Nevada is predominantly a plateau with an elevation ranging between 5,000 and 6,000 feet in the eastern side and 3800-5000 feet in the western part. Nevada has several mountain ranges running from north to south. The only east-west range is in the northeast where it forms the southern limit of the Columbia River Basin. The varied and rugged topography of the state with its mountain ranges, and narrow valleys ranging between 1,500 to more than 10,000 feet above sea level there are wide variations of temperature and rainfall throughout the state. Generally the Climate of Nevada is marked by bright sunshine, small annual rainfall, heavy snowfall in the higher mountains, clean and dry air prevailing across the state apart from the wide daily ranges of temperature.
